Gordie Howe International Bridge

Few infrastructure projects in North America rival the scale and long-term significance of the Gordie Howe International Bridge. Connecting the United States and Canada across the Detroit River, the crossing represents a major investment in cross-border trade, transportation, and border security, serving millions of travelers and supporting billions of dollars in annual commerce.
From January 2023 through 2026, Future Fence Company completed the perimeter security and access control scope for the U.S. Port of Entry, installing fencing, gates, automated entry systems, guardrail, and precast concrete security walls across one of North America’s largest infrastructure projects.
Over three years, Future Fence Company dedicated more than 35,000 man-hours with a ten-person field crew to install a multi-layered perimeter security system designed for long-term operational performance.
The completed scope included:
- 4,500 linear feet of 10-foot-high vinyl-coated chain link fence with vehicular-resistant cable reinforcement
- 20,000 linear feet of 5-foot-high black vinyl fence with vehicular-resistant cable reinforcement
- 36,000 linear feet of 8-foot-high wire mesh security fence with barbed wire extensions
- 400 linear feet of architectural louvered fence panels
- 5,000 linear feet of guardrail, including bridge anchors, approach and departure ends, and four QuadGuard Elite crash attenuators
- 3,950 linear feet of 12-foot-high precast concrete security wall
- Nine cantilever slide gates ranging from 25 to 30 feet wide
- Twenty-two pedestrian double swing gates
- Eighteen vehicular swing gates ranging from 20 to 30 feet wide
- Integrated gate operators, drop arms, and vehicle access control systems
